“Costume Designer Nia “Safarr” Banks offers us an eclectic ensemble, by turns contemporary and period, with Claudius and Gertrude in traditional court fabrics, contrasted with Rodgers’ Hamlet in a Banksy T-shirt. The younger generation sports leather and jeans jackets, each with their own touches that speak to our popular culture, with designs that vary wildly, often in delightful ways.

Designing Costumes for the Stage at BU School of Theatre

“For Nia Safarr Banks (CFA’23), the collaboration process is what being a Graduate Costume Design major 👗 in the Boston University School of Theatre is all about! “Once they get into that dress or that suit, they really transform into the character,” says Nia, who was the lead costume designer for “Let The Right One In” in BU's Booth Theatre. “My job is to heighten whatever performance is already being given.””
